Science
“Equipped with five senses, people explore the universe around them and call the adventure Science.”
— Edwin Hubble
- Science enables children to stretch and reach up academically – they will learn the theories discovered by great scientists and discover new knowledge that enables them to understand themselves, the world that is around them and the universe beyond.
- Science enables children to stretch and reach in and out – Scientific enquiry is a highly collaborative activity requiring the ability to listen to and learn from others. It leads to challenge and debate and causes us to learn to disagree well.
- Science enables children to stretch and reach forwards – it is not just about knowing theories and facts but about understanding how we come to know – through scientific enquiry, using our senses, challenging our own perceptions and misconceptions. Science takes us from where we are, helps us to understand what it means to be living, it causes us to wonder about things that are so small we may not even be able to see them under a microscope, and so huge we might not see them through a telescope – yet!
We use the White Rose Science Scheme resources for our curriculum in Years 1 – 6.
